🌱 Garden Worm Mix – European Nightcrawlers & Red Wigglers

Perfect for raised garden beds!  Transform your garden into a thriving ecosystem with our premium Garden Worm Mix. This carefully curated blend combines two of nature's most efficient composters: Pure European Nightcrawlers (Eisenia hortensis) and Pure Red Wigglers (Eisenia fetida). Together, they work non-stop to enhance soil health, boost plant growth, and streamline your composting process.

Why Choose Our Garden Worm Mix?

🌿 Dual Composting Action:

  • Red Wigglers are surface dwellers that rapidly break down organic matter, producing nutrient-rich castings ideal for plant nourishment.

  • European Nightcrawlers delve deeper into the soil, aerating and enriching subsurface layers, ensuring comprehensive soil improvement.

  • No Indian Blues - Regardless of what some may advertise, Indian Blues (which most advertised red worms are) cannot survive the cooler winter temperatures found in most of the United States - even with insulation. True Red Wigglers and European Nightcrawlers can live successfully through winter if insulated as mentioned below.

🌿 Enhanced Soil Structure:
The tunneling activity of both worm species improves soil aeration and water retention, creating optimal conditions for root development and microbial activity.

🌿 Natural Fertilization:
As these worms consume organic material, they excrete castings rich in essential nutrients and more importantly, microbiology, reducing the need for chemical fertilizers and and literally putting the life back in your soil.

🌿 Cold Weather Care:  Composting worms are not considered earthworms and therefore will likely not survive a freeze.  They dwell on the top of the Earth composting organic material unlike true earthworms like Canadian nightcrawlers who will dive up to 6 feet down to get away from frost.  In order for your worms to survive freezing temperatures in the colder months, composting worms must be insulated with a thick layer of wood chips, straw, etc or they will not survive.  A thick layer insulating material will allow your worms to compost throughout the winter and survive freezing conditions.

🌿 How Many Worms Do I Need?

  • 10 worms/sq surface ft – This is the minimum density for basic soil health improvement.

  • 15 worms/sq surface ft – This is ideal for actively enriching the soil and supporting robust plant growth.

  • 20+ worms/sq surface ft – This is considered excellent, especially in rich, well-managed compost-amended beds.
